At least three people have been confirmed dead and twenty others critically injured after a road crash along Katakwi- Soroti Road today, Thursday, 4th January, 2024.
The accident, which took place at Kide village-Getom Sub County in Katakwi District, involved a Tata lorry and a Bodaboda.
According to RDC Katakwi district Rt Maj Godfrey Katamba, the Tata lorry lost control and crashed into the Motorcycle at around 06:00am on Thursday.
“The Tata registration number UBP 936M was coming from Katakwi heading to Soroti and upon reaching Kide village-Getom Sub County, the driver lost control and he then swerved to his extreme right where he met an oncoming Bodaboda on motorcycle Reg. UEJ 5621P, leading to the collision,” Tumusiime explained.
He identified the dead as Jenifer Amuge, 37, of Getom village-Getom sub county in Katakwi District and the husband who is not been identified. The two died on the spot while one other, an occupant of the Tata lory died in the hospital .
Two other occupants of the Tata lory are in very critical condition.
Katamba said the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Katakwi General Hospital for postmortem and those critically injured are also being treated at the same facility.
He attributed the accident to “reckless driving.”
Meanwhile, Hon Geoffrey Omolo during an interview with our reporter at the scene, appealed to the community to be careful while using main roads.
The accident comes barely one week after chairman Omolo cautioned masses on road safety in Teso sub region.
