Angry Boda Boda riders in Manafwa district have set ablaze a suspected motorcycle robber after a botched attempt at robbing one of them.

The incident occurred on Friday, 5th January, 2024/01/04 at Kufu Trading Center located at Manafwa Town Council in Manafwa district at about 9:00PM.

According to Emma Munyalo, the Manafwa district Boda Boda chairman, the two suspected thieves were being carried on Bajaji boxer motorcycle number UFB 975C by Wabutambi.

He says the thugs hired Wabutambi pretending to be passengers heading to Namisindwa from Mbale town.

He added that after reaching Kufu trading center, one of the thugs removed a sharp panga from his coat and cut Wabutambi on the head with the aim of killing him and take away his motorcycle.

Wabutambi however, made an alarm which attracted his fellow Boda Boda riders from near Kufu stage. The two took off but the deceased was unfortunately apprehended.

The angry riders beat the suspect until he died on spot, then poured Petrol on his body and set fire on it. Police however, swung into action and was able to retrieve a few remains which they took Mbale city mortuary for postmortem.

The motorcycle was saved and the rider got minor cut injuries on his hands.

Efforts to get a comment from Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson were futile as he promised to get back to our reporter later after gathering enough information from Manafwa DPC.
