The Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned the general public to be cautious of Labor Exporting Companies saying due diligence must always be done.
This warning was sounded by CP Twinomujuni Julius, the National Coordinator for the Coordination Office for Prevention of Trafficking in Persons, in the Ministry of Internal Affairs today, 11th January, 2024.
Twinomujuni was speaking at Silver Springs Hotel Bugolobi, Kampala City where a National Task Force meeting was held to find ways on how best to protect migrant workers.
CP Twinomujuni noted that most migrant workers are often duped or promised jobs and scholarships, that at times do not exist and they end up into different ways of exploitation especially labour and sexual exploitation.
Uganda still remains a source, transit and destination country and details will soon be published in the National Report on Countering Trafficking in Persons in Uganda for the year 2023.
CP Twinomujuni urged members of the public to always do due diligence on labour-export companies and individuals by reaching out to the authorities, such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and others to verify the promises.
