JUST IN: Bugisu’s Nassaka, One Other Remanded over Theft of Karamoja Iron Sheets

Entebbe chief Magistrate court presided over by Acting Senior Grade one Magistrate Edgar Tusiime Tibayeita, has charged two business women in Entebbe with four counts including theft of 214 iron sheets belonging to the government of Uganda under the Office of the Prime Minister.
Other charges imposed against the suspects include retaining stolen government property, conspiracy to commit a felony and being accessories in crime.
The said iron sheets are part of the iron sheets that were meant to benefit the people of Karamoja region under the office of the Prime Minister.
However, the suspects denied wrong doing saying they never committed all the four counts levelled against them.
Prosecution Lawyer informed court that on August 13, 2023 at Nkumba / Bufulu zone in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district, the suspects who include, Rose Nasaka 45, and Margret Musoke 46, both business women were found in possession of 214 iron sheets belonging to the government of Uganda under Prime Minister’s office, yet they knew very well are stolen iron sheets.
Court also heard that on August 13,2023 at Nkumba/ Bufulu zone in Katabi Town Council Wakiso district, the accused persons kept 214  stolen iron sheets in their residences, connived to steal them yet they knew belonged to the government of Uganda under the office of prime minister in addition to conspiring to commit a felony.
The accused persons when they were given chance to say something before court , they asked the presiding Magistrate to grant them bail saying they have been on Police bond for a couple of months, and therefore can’t not violate the bail terms and conditions.
Though the duo requested for a court bail , the presiding Magistrate declined granting them bail saying he was sitting in for the Entebbe  Chief Magistrate who was away for official duties. He however, remanded the accused persons to Kigo government prisons until January 24, 2024, when the Chief Magistrate will be available to hear their bail application.
