NAMISNDWA: Early Evening Landslide Rolling Rock Kills One

A rolling stone caused by a landslide has killed one person in Namisindwa district.

 

The deceased, Afusa Wachemba aged 11 years and a resident of Buwazala parish Buwundu village Bumbo sub county in Namisindwa died on the evening of Friday, 12th January, 2024.

 

According to Michael Koyi, an area resident, the minor was killed by rolling stones which got her at her father’s home washing plates last evening.

 

He says that they managed to rush the victim to Mbale regional referral hospital last night but she later died from the hospital.

 

Simon Mutwalibu, the deceased’s father when connected said the incident happened when both his wife and himself were not at home.

 

Anthony Busolo, the LC3 chairperson of Bumbo Sub County has confirmed the incident saying that the same landslide also destroyed lots of crops like bananas, coffee among others.

 

John Musila, the area Member of Parliament representing Bubulo East constituency in Namisindwa district has urged people living in disaster prone areas to vacate and go to their relatives, churches and schools which are in safer place as rains continue.

 

He urged the LC3 chairperson with other sub County leaders to register the affected people and items which were destroyed and take to the district such the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness can be contacted for a response.
