The Kampala Metropolitan South territorial Police, in collaboration with Nsangi Police station, have successfully apprehended three suspects implicated in the raid at Honourable Mubarak Munyangwa’s residence.

Munyangwa was attacked at his residence in Kimbeja cell, and his security guard Benjamin Mpaka was injured on January 3, 2024, in Budo ward, Kyengera.

Diligent police work led to the successful arrest of the trio on January 16, 2024, where the suspects were found in possession of breaking implements believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes.

In a statement dated 17th January, 2024, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police identifies the suspects as; Igga Meddy, Safari Allan, and Kwizera Mansur.

The trio is also suspected to have carried out aggravated robbery and attempting to murder Musoke Collins, Ssebufu Kenneth, Namutebi Winnie, Kalanzi Juma, Emuroni Michael, and Male Shaffic on December 29, 2023.

In both instances, victims sustained injuries, and valuable items, including a 65-inch television, approximately 2 million in cash, and 10 phones, were stolen. Additionally, a vehicle (Mv Mark X – UBB043A) was vandalized at one of the targeted homes.

Investigations revealed that stolen phones, some containing mobile money, were traced to unauthorized transactions.

“Telephone lines associated with the illicit transfer of money during the robbery incidents were also recovered and will serve as crucial exhibits for the prosecution of the suspects,” Owoyesigyire says.

He says the arrested individuals, operating within a larger group of 6-8 members, primarily targeted the areas of Budo, Kimbeja, and Kyengera town council.

“Currently, security agencies are actively pursuing other members of the group who remain at large. We commend the public for their vigilance in providing information against criminal elements and applaud the dedicated task teams for the successful arrest of the suspects,” he says.

The arrested individuals, Igga Meddy, Safari Allan, and Kwizera Mansur, have been charged with Aggravated Robbery and Attempted Murder.
