Drama was at Sironko district council today,Tuesday, 20th February, 2024 after council refused to approve two public accounts committee members.
The nominees were James Makabayi for Chairperson Sironko District PAC chairperson and Charles Wandulu, a member.
The names were proposed by Lydia Gimono, the district LCV Vice chairperson.
These two members had their 4 year term of office expire and were seeking renewal by council.
According to Wetaka, an Acidic councilor representing elders, PAC committee has for the last four years failed to bring any report to the Speaker as the law says.
He says there is no reason to give them another term yet they have failed to perform.
Dison Balayo, councilor representing Sironko Town Council called for approval of the names arguing that they submitted reports to the Speaker on Tuesday, 20th February, 2024.
However, the Speaker of Sironko district Council, Samuel Mafabi put the argument on vote whereby 17 voted for approval while 27 voted against.
This forced the Speaker to put the approval on hold until he internalizes the report he was given before approval of names in the next council.
