Three people confirmed suffering from anthrax disease in Aminit Sub County in Bukedea district have disappeared from a health facility before getting treatment.

The three whose particulars were not revealed were to undergo anthrax treatment in Kolir health Centre III after the screened results were confirmed positive.

Mr. Moses Oluka, the Kolir health Centre III in charge yesterday 20th, Feb 2024 said the three victims appeared to the health facility on Monday for treatment but as a team of doctors were organizing to isolate them, the victims took off.

“Since the anthrax is an airborne disease, as we were busy dressing in our protective gears, on our way out, we found the victims had already disappeared,” said Mr. Oluka.

Mr. Oluka also added that the victims seem to have developed fear after an unknown person leaked information that they are to be isolated and put on quarantine.

“This now calls for joint team work between the community and local leaders”, added Mr. Oluka.

Dr. Emmanuel Odeke Okalany, the Bukedea District Health Officer (DHO) told this publication that the anthrax disease is manageable as long as community members cooperate.

He said the disease gives wounds on the human skin.

“This disease is manageable if people accept to be isolated and treated,” said Dr. Odeke.

Mr. William Wilberforce Tukei, the Bukedea Resident District Commissioner (RDC), however appealed to the community to be vigilant and mindful of their lives.

“Currently Bukedea is under quarantine. My warning to the people, let’s stop the habit of eating borrowed meat from other districts,” said Tukei.

Mr. Tukei also added that his office is going to deploy a team of vigilantes in order to ensure that the victims that disappeared from the health facility are rounded up.
