SOROTI CITY
The Youth under their umbrella of the National Resistance Movement youth league have initiated a pressure group dubbed The Yellow Movement within the NRM party.
The pressure group movement within the NRM party is set to be launched tomorrow 24th Feb 2024 at the NRM Secretariat in Kampala according to Jacob Eyeru, the national youth council chairperson spearheading the group.
This comes barely two weeks after the rebrand of MK movement to Patriotic League of Uganda where a section of NRM members are also loyal to.
The group behind this movement have also on several occasions seen declaring their full support to H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to stand as a sole candidate in 2026 election, a clear message that they believe and still desire his leadership skills.
In their concept letter seen by this reporter, YYM is an initiative of NRM Youth with a rallying call for all Ugandan youths to focus and amplify the broad-based issues.
“Inspired by the visionary leadership of President Yoweri Museveni and the established principles of the National Resistance Army (NRA), the NRM party has engaged the youth population under the NRM Youth League since 2006.
The membership of the NRM Youth league is for all youth members of the NRM party. However, the NRM Youth league has over the recent years been an absent-presence in matters regarding national conversation and development either owing to the non-renewal of mandate which created a big age gap between reigning leaders and active youth politicians or as a result of structural constraints in the NRM Youth League.” Part of the concept read.
In the lead up to the 2026 electoral period, the NRM youth argues that it is important that they are considered as the youth mobilization face of the party with clarity of ideological message and demonstrated support of mainstream party ideology.
This they believe they can achieve through this movement using the guiding philosophy of the party’s mass mobilization strategy as championed from the front by the Chairman of the Party, H.E Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Grounded in the Mass Line Approach, YYM is committed to addressing key developmental challenges and mobilizing young people to actively participate in shaping the future of Uganda as a nation.
The group believe and want to ensure that there is quality Compulsory Free Education for Primary and Secondary level which has been President Museveni has long emphasized on.
The group also bases its formation on ground of building economic Inclusion of all Ugandans through Broad-Based Grassroots programs.
“President Museveni’s vision for economic transformation in Uganda is rooted in broad-based grassroots economic financing initiatives. He has championed policies aimed at empowering small-scale entrepreneurs, farmers, and youth-led enterprises, recognizing their role as engines of economic growth and poverty reduction over the last two decades and not least, the Parish Development Model. The YYM will highlight the economic landscape change these programs have engineered and what that means for the future of Ugandans” the concepts reads in part of their activities.
The further state that they want to ensure that access to Healthcare through a strong and efficient referral Health System is broaden and Mass skilling of all Ugandan youths that nears 40% of its population.
