The Bukwo District authorities have identified five sub counties most hit by rising cases of rabies.
The five most affected sub counties are those neighboring the Mt Elgon National Park and they include; Suam, Kapsarur, Brim, Chesower, and Kapterewo.
This was revealed by Peter Opio, the Bukwo District Veterinary Officer while meeting the media on Saturday, 24th February, 2024 at the district headquarters.
He revealed that the district has embarked on vaccinating all dogs and killing stray dogs as the best solution to reduce the disease.
In the same vein, Geoffrey Barteka, the Bukwo District Health Officer says that this disease is increasing in the area because of its proximity to the National Park since wild animals cross from the park to people’s homes ending up biting them or biting their dogs which transmit the disease.
