Mao and Beatrice when rumours of them dating started making rounds

The Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs and President General of the Democratic Party was on Sunday, 25th February introduced by Beatrice Kayanja.

The low-key function known traditionally as “Kwanjula” was held indoors at the home of Beatrice in Najjanankumbi, a Kampala suburb.

It was graced by a select number of guests, including Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon Thomas Tayebwa, Mbarara MP Hon Mwesigwa Rukaari, family members and friends.

WHO IS BEATRICE KAYANJA

Kayanja and Wife, Beatrice

Beatrice who is currently serving as a Research Assistant at the Opposition Democratic Party (DP) was formerly married to Martin Kaynaja, a London based businessman.

Beatrice reportedly started dating Mao around 2020, when Beatrice left her husband Martin Kayanja in London to return to Uganda and Covid-19 locked her down here.

Around the same time, Beatrice tried unsuccessfully to contest for Kampala Lord Mayor but was disqualified by the Electoral Commission.

When reports started swirling about her and Mao being an item, the opposition party spoke out vehemently denying the allegations.

Her then-husband Kayanja launched an online campaign accusing her of promiscuity and abandoning her children to run off with Mao.

Two years later, she filed for divorce at the Kampala High Court in which she claimed irreconcilable differences with Kayanja.

Mao, on the other hand, divorced his wife of three children, Naomi Achieng Adong in 2019. They had been married for 16 years.

Smelling a rat in 2020, the UK-based Martin Kayanja accused Nobert Mao of snatching his wife, Beatrice Kayanja.

In Kayanja’s video which went viral, Kayanja said that Beatrice came to Uganda in March and got stuck because of the lockdown. She decided to try her luck in politics and she was declared DP Kampala lord mayor flag bearer but later dropped out of the race.

Since then, she was seen moving places with Mao, who was traversing the country campaigning with an aim of ousting president Museveni.

On campaigns, she was always besides Mao as if she was his wife.

In the video, Kayanja said that what hurt him most was the fact that his wife, was moving in the same car with Mao as if she was his wife and pleaded with the DP supremo to leave his wife.

Kayanja then pleaded with Mao to give Beatrice space and called on his wife to return home saying he loved her so much and the kids missed her too.
