The National Unity Platform (NUP) Party has asked the former Leader of Opposition, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga to resign his Parliamentary Commission job.

The resolution is contained in 29th February, 2024 Memo following a meeting convened by the Party’s Principal, Robert Kyagulanyi on Wednesday, 28th February, 2024.

NUP Memo asking Mpuuga to step down

Kyagulanyi convened the meeting attended by Senior Party leaders, Senior Legislators and all Party Deputy Presidents on the backdrop of allegations of corruption by some of its Party members.

The NUP party alleges that while LOP, Mathias Mpuuga alongside other three Commissioners awarded themselves huge amounts of tax payers’ money in the name of Service Awards. In the process, Mpuuga got paid Shs500M after his term of office as LOP expired.

During the 28th Wednesday meeting, the NUP Memo says, Mpuuga admitted to the wrongdoing and apologized.

“Rt. Hon. Mathias Mpuuga admitted that he indeed took part in this wrongdoing and apologized. In light of this, he was strongly advised that the Moral thing to do in the circumstances is to step down from his role as Parliamentary Commissioner with immediate effect,” reads the NUP Memo.

NUP says Mpuuga’s actions are contrary to the Party’s integrity Oath which every leader swore at the beginning of this term.
