The Ministry of Public Service has announced that 7781 public servants in MDAs and Local governments will be deleted from the payroll effective March, 2024.

This announcement was made by the Minister of State for Public Service, Hon. Mary Mugasa Akiiki while addressing the media on the extraction of workers from the payroll today, 7th March, 2024.

The Public servants to be deleted are those that failed the Auditor General’s verification exercise carried out in 2023.

She says among the affected are 1,975 Public Officers in MDAs, and LGs using either the payroll maintained by the Ministry of Public Service or using their payroll systems that were not verified since they did not meet the verification requirements.

Another 3,824 are Public Officers who were either transferred or absconded or died but remained on the active payroll.

The last lot is 1,982 Public Officers who did not show up for the verification exercise and are therefore Potential Ghosts.

She revealed that 2,054 Public Officers who were either transferred, absconded or died were deleted from the payroll in 2023.

The deletion according to the Minister started in February, 2024 affecting those not verified (no show); those identified as ghost employees and those irregularly retained on the payroll after death, abscondment, or transfer.
