A team of Tourism Enthusiasts in Teso led by the deputy minister in charge Tourism have embarked on a journey to uncover Teso’s tourist potential destination.
Joseph Ojatum and a team of passionate young talented content creators, says their adventure promises excitement and Discovery. He said this at Iteso Cultural institution offices over the weekend.
Teso region in Uganda has several potential tourism sites that can attract visitors like Lake Opeta, a serene lake ideal for bird watching with endemic birds and fishing, with opportunities for boat rides and picnics along its shores.
Nyero Rock Paintings, Ancient rock art dating back thousands of years, depicting scenes of everyday life and spiritual beliefs of early inhabitants of the region.
“Preserving Nyero rock painting is a wonderful move and I want to appreciate the government of Uganda, it’s now going to be taken up by UNESCO” Ojatum said.
Apart from Nyero Rock Painting is Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve which is going to be the national game park. Ojatum says the place is a huge potential for Teso since the authorities have accepted the entrance gate to be in Magoro in Katakwi.
“We had a discussion with the Uganda Wild Authority and they accepted the gate to be in Magoro Angisa. This is wonderful because when tourists enter that park for game drive, nature walk and other things, each person pays and 10% of that comes to the local government,” he stressed.
The park contains animals like the giraffe, antelope, cheaters, Buffaloes and many others.
Ojatum noted that the move is purposed at mapping tourism sites in Teso with the aim of improving the economy in Teso through hosting visitors. He said tourism sectors come with huge development in infrastructure.
These sites, among others, showcase the natural beauty, cultural richness, and historical significance of the Teso region, making it a promising destination for tourism development.
“We are also going to create other tourism products in these areas in order to blend what we already have. In The next five to ten years, we want Teso to be the next destination of international and local tourists,” he said.
