Leaders from Namisindwa district have asked the government to upgrade Lwakhakha Uganda -Kenya border into a border stop center as a way of developing the place and increasing tax revenue for the government.
They raised this request on Friday, 19th April, 2024 during the district women’s day celebration held at Lwakhakha border located At Lwakhakha Town Council in Namisindwa district.
John Musila, Member of Parliament representing Bubulo East constituency in Namisindwa district says that last year, he lobbied government to allow empty transit trucks which enter Kenya from Uganda to use Lwakhakha border as a way of developing the area and decongest Malaba stop center.
He says that since empty trucks started entering Kenya using the Lwakhakha border, the border area and entire Lwakhakha town council has been transformed economically.
Musila says that currently, the population of the place has grown, people do business full time, and land value has increased.
Peace Khalayi, the Namisindwa upcoming woman Member of Parliament, 2026 says that if the area is turned into a stop center, the government is going to earn more revenue.
She says that rather than the government depending on the Malaba border point alone in the Eastern region, Lwakhakha must be considered since they meet all required needs like having tarmac road, and government buildings.
Aramazan Wabuko, the Namisindwa district NRM chairperson told Musila to remind the government about the tarmacking of Munamba, Bumbo – Lwakhakha road as was promised last year.
He says that government tarmacking that road is going to increase on agriculture and trade in the area since their agriculture products like onions , cabbage among others will be transported to Mbale town for selling.
Nebokhe Walukawu, the Namisindwa district speaker thanked the President for empowering women in terms of gender balance at administration and other offices.
He urged mothers to raise their young girls right by disciplining and teaching them religion such that they can be good future leaders.
Robert Wamdasi, the Member of Parliament representing Bungokho South county in Mbale district who was Chief Guest cautioned mothers against misusing the liberty and emancipation which government granted to them.
He says that some mothers mistreat their husbands and dress in trousers claiming that they are equal to men.
