President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed Uganda Revenue Authority to stop issuing penalties and recovering any penalties that have already been issued to traders on non-EFRIS Compliance.

President Museveni issued the directive after meeting the traders’ leadership at State House Entebbe on Friday, 19th April, 2024.

President Museveni says, in the meantime, let taxpayers continue paying their taxes as usual.

Museveni who met the traders who are protesting against high taxes on imported textiles, the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution (EFRIS) which they claim is not suitable for most of them and yet when they don’t use it, they are penalized.

The other issue the traders raised with the President is about Manufacturers who engage in wholesale and retail trade leaving no room for traders to do business, resulting in unfair trade and VAT.

The president says he asked the traders to give him time to research more and consult the technocrats on all the concerns they raised revealing that he will then meet them all on 7th May, 2024, at Kololo to discuss further.

“It is good they have agreed to open up their businesses as we continue to find solutions to the issues raised’” says President Museveni.
