Following the continuous rains which are pounding Bugisu region, sad news received from Bulambuli district indicates that animals have been buried with properties destroyed after landslide hitting four villages in Nabiwutulu Sub County.
The land slide occurred on Tuesday, 23rd April, 2024 at 2pm following the rain which lasted for three hours in the area.
According to Bosco Wamakuyu, the LCI Chairperson of Doba village, the Landslide took a way a kraal of one of his residents where three cows were buried in mud as more ten got serious injuries.
He mentioned the most affected villages as Doba, Gibangayi, Mashup, Mabambu, all located in Doba parish, Nabiwutulu Sub county.
Fred Gimeyi, one of the affected residents says that currently over 200 locals have vacated to Tunyi primary school to get shelter after water entering into their houses and cracks still showing in the area.
He adds that the landslide also buried crops like coffee, maize, bananas and beans saying they expect serious hunger in future.
They urged district leaders and ministry of disaster to come in and support them with relief items since they are starving now.
Annet Nandudu, the LCV Chairperson of Bulambuli district has confirmed the incident saying she has asked the local leaders to compile a report and take it to the district before informing the ministry of disaster for response.
