President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has authorized Hamis Kiggundu to run the newly refurbished Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium for the next 49 years.

President Museveni made this declaration on Thursday, 25th April, 2024 after commissioning the Stadium saying, “I thank Mr. Hamis Kiggundu for his innovative spirit and congratulate the NRM for the smart policy of involving the private sector.”

Museveni says Kiggundu can run the stadium for the next 49 years to recoup his investment, but hastened to add that the stadium belongs to the people of Uganda.

“Future governments will decide its fate. We shall build two more stadiums in the meantime and ensure that they meet international standards,” he says.

Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium had a capacity of 30,000 people, after the 2013 renovations. However, upon full completion of the renovations started in 2017, the stadium that was commissioned on 25 April 2024 has a total seating capacity of 20,000 people.
