Letter purportedly written by President Museveni

A new twist has emerged regarding a letter purportedly written by President Museveni on 3rd May, 2024 and addressed to the Attorney General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka over the legality of the Shs1.7bn Service Awards paid to Parliamentary Commissioners.

In that letter, President Museveni was directing the IGG, DPP and CID to investigate the Awards that saw the then Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga walk home with Shs500M while the other Commissioners earned Shs400M.

Although the alleged President Museveni’s letter was written on the 3rd May, 2024, it only ‘leaked’ on Friday, 10th May.

PPU Statement

However, the Presidential Press Unit (PPU) has come out today, 13th May, 2024 to deny the letter saying the President never authored it.

“The Presidential Press Unit, (PPU) wishes to inform the general public that the letter circulating on Social Media purportedly authored by His Excellency the President on the Subject of Service Awards to Parliamentary Commissioners is forged and should be ignored,” reads the press statement.

The PPU statement dated today does not bear the name of responsible officer but only says Management.

The two letters have left the public confused considering that the language used in the ‘purported’ Museveni’s letter is typical of Musevenism.
