Industrial City Division Principal Town Clerk has been tasked to explain the whereabouts of the money allocated for the renovation of the City Abattoir which is now in a very sorry state.

This issue has been raised by Musa Kasaja, the Speaker of the Industrial city division Council who is demanding Martin Busiku to account for Shs237million Discretional Development Equalization Grant (DDEG).

According to the speaker, while speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview on Sunday, 12th May, 2024, government gave a DDEG Shs237M grant to Industrial city division in the financial year 2023/24.

He says that the division council allocated part of that money to rehabilitate Mbale City Abattoir and install solar lights on roads that connect to worship places like churches and mosques.

Kasaja revealed that when he raised this concern on the floor of the council, a few days later, the division picked Shs117M which was part of the Shs237million and bought ten solar lights at Shs12M each.

Kasaja argues that this is an inflated cost going by the actual quality of the Solar lights.

He adds that in March this year, he raised the complaint to State House Anti- Corruption Unit which caused the arrest of Kasimu Waboga who was principal town clerk at that time.

Kasaja now demands the Principal Town Clerk of Industrial city division to break down other allocations of the remaining money since no single renovation has ever done on the abattoir and all solar lights have not been installed as allocated by council.

When contacted on phone, Busiku dismissed the allegations saying Kasaja is simply playing cheap politics.
