A total of over 300 farmers in the Doho1 rice scheme, in Butaleja district have a reason to smile after government injected Shs750 million Grant into the scheme.

This was revealed by Hajirah Namagogwe, the Butaleja Resident District Commissioner while speaking to the media on Friday, 17th May, 2024 at her office.

Namagogwe says the money has been allocated to the farmers by the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Husbandry And Fisheries.

She says that money is going to do different activities like building parameter walls to prevent flooding of River Manafwa which has been affecting farmers, build latrines in the scheme, and install a modern milling machine for rice farmers.

The RDC says that the money has already been released and works will commence before the end of this financial year 2023/24 urging farmers to embrace the development.

Jimmy Nambiro, the Butaleja assistant RDC urged farmers in Doho1 rice scheme to form SACCOs and sell their rice together as a way of earning higher prices for their rice.

He urged them to embrace government programs like Emyooga, Parish Development Model among others such that they can use that money for rice growing.

Samuel Were, one of the rice growers at Doho1 rice scheme expressed his happiness with the grant saying this money is going to transform the scheme and their lives.
