Two Senior Butaleja District Local Government Officials have today, Monday, 27th May, 2024 been arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo, Kampala on charges of Abuse of Office.
The duo that was arrested by State House Anti-Corruption Unit is Hirya Julius (Town Clerk) and Namutiga Charles Guloba (Assistant Engineer).
According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the pair while working at Busolwe Town Council, Butaleja district in May, 2022 allegedly abused their authority by irregularly approving contracts to World Host Consultants Ltd, for the designing of the town council structural plan without following procurement procedures.
This impunity resulted in loss of public funds in payments to the irregularly contracted World Host Consultants Ltd.
They have been remanded until 14th June, 2024 when they will reappear before court for mention of their case and bail application.
