NAMISINDWA
Namisindwa district has resumed the distribution of Youth livelihood Funds after a one year’s suspension.
The district had in the FY2022/23 failed to give out any money to any group after the earlier beneficiaries defaulted in paying back the money disbursed to them.
In the FY 2021/22 Namisindwa district gave out Shs710M to a number of youth groups but by end of FY2022/23, Shs10M had been recovered which was too little to be given out to other youth groups.
This forced the district leaders to suspend distribution of the money to other groups for the whole of FY2022/23.
However, the program resumed on Thursday, 30th May, 2024 with two groups receiving Shs67M.
While speaking during the distribution of the money at the district head offices, Andrew Wabweni, the Namisindwa District Community Development Officer urged the two groups to repay the money such that their colleagues can also benefit in the next financial year of 2024/25.
Imran Muluga, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner also says that there are some youths who are still in Kenya after getting information that they are going to be arrested for failing to pay back the money of financial year 2021/2022.
He adds that the case is still there waiting for them saying that when they come back, they will be arrested and forced to vomit that money since it is a revolving fund.
Meanwhile, eight groups of women also received Shs55million under Uganda Women Empowerment Program (UWEP).
