BREAKING! Gov’t Postpones Mass Enrolment, Renewal of National IDs Exercise

By Our Reporter

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has postponed the Mass Enrolment and Renewal Exercise that was set to start on 1st June 2024.

Confirmation of the postponement was issued today, Wednesday, 5th June, 2024 by the National Identification and Registration Authority’s Executive Director, Rosemary Kisembo.

Kisembo says the postponement is due to, “unforeseen delays in the procurement process.”

Kisembo however notes that by the end of July 2024, the exercise will commence.

“Aware of the Electoral Roadmap, and expiry of some cards beginning August 2024, Government is taking all necessary measures to ensure that the delays do not affect service delivery and the roadmap,” reads Kisembo’s statement in part.

She says that in consultation with the Attorney General’s Chambers, measures are being put in place to ensure that the public suffers no disadvantage because of the delays.

In 2014, a similar exercise was successfully carried out in a period of four months.

“Therefore, The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Identification and Registration Authority would like to assure the public that Government will deliver this exercise successfully within the stipulated timelines,” she says.
