A man masquerading as a UMEME staff has been electrocuted while fixing an illegal connection Makutuna Trading Center, Buhugu Sub County in Sironko district.
The Sironko District Police Commander, (DPC) Frank Muzoora, the 39 year old Moses Magomu was electrocuted in the evening of Tuesday, 4th June, 2024.
The DPC says that according to community members, Magomu told the community that he was a staff of UMEME and that he was illegally connecting electricity into their houses after collecting some money from them.
He says that Magomu was electrocuted from the electric pole and only fell down when he was dead.
Muzoora says that the body has been taken to Mbale city mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue.
Wilson Egesa, the UMEME Manager Mbale region distanced himself from the deceased saying he was not their staff.
He says that it’s true the deceased might have been in UMEME attires but he was not working with UMEME.
The manager cautioned the community against dealing with any person they get around without having prove that he works with UMEME.
