A suspected 16 year old phone thief who was tortured and then buried in a shallow grave has been discovered alive after two days.

This incident happened in Bubaare Sub County, Sheema district on 28th May, 2024.

According to SCP Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson, Amanya Charles, a 16 year old, peasant of Kabujye cell, Sheema district was accused by his co-workers of stealing their phones.

Among the colleagues who beat and tortured Amanya are Kamuhanda Evans, aged 17 and Kamukama Apollo, aged 43, of Kaliba Cell, Bubaare Sub County in Sheema district.

They are now facing charges of torture, conspiracy and attempted murder.

The suspects accused the victim for stealing their phones, which forced them to tie him on a tree, where they tortured him. Later in the night, they dug a shallow grave, where they dumped and buried him.

Enanga says the victim managed to crawl out of the shallow grave, to a nearby shack, where he spent two days till the 30.05.2024, at around 6pm, when he was discovered and taken to police. He was transferred to Bubaare Health Centre for treatment.

“It is extremely saddening that the victim was held captive, tortured over a missing phone and dumped in a shallow grave by his co-workers,” says Enanga.

Enanga says police is hunting for the other suspects still at large and ensure they are charged to court as well.
