Heartbreaking news especially to Uganda’s football fraternity have just emerged indicating that Mandela National Stadium, Namboole has not yet been licensed to host international matches.
This is shocking considering that on 13th May, 2024, FUFA informed Ugandans that CAF had granted FUFA permission to host international matches at Mandela National Stadium (Namboole).
“CAF has granted FUFA permission to host International Matches at Mandela National Stadium (Namboole). This therefore implies that Uganda Cranes will host the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier matches against Botswana and Algeria in June at Namboole.” Read the statement from FUFA.
However, FUFA President, Moses Magogo has today Friday, 14th June, 2024 revealed that FUFA only received a provisional license to host only the 2 matches played against Botswana and Algeria.
He says that for Uganda to host the September, 2024 matches at Namboole, FUFA will have to apply for the licence
“It is important for Ugandans to know that we received a provisional license to host only the 2 matches we played against Botswana and Algeria. Namboole is still under renovation, and to host games in September we will have to apply for the licence,” Magogo posted on his X Handle today.
