KATAKWI
Security team together with IGG has arrested both current and former Secretaries to Katakwi District Service Commission.
Gabriel Okello, the current DSC Secretary was arrested together with Moses Opio, former Secretary but currently Katakwi sub county Assistant over alleged Abuse of Office.
This was confirmed to this website by the RDC Katakwi district, Maj Rtd Godfrey Katamba on Friday, 21st June, 2024 at his office.
According to Katamba, the duo was arrested on Wednesday 16th June, 2024 following the validation of workers in the district where fraud was established.
According to reports, the current secretary service commission Gabriel Okello promoted Simon Peter Opio who is a teacher in Katakwi primary school to level of deputy head teacher without a diploma in education.
Whereas it is alleged that Opio while secretary service commission, recruited two potters to Local government who do not have any qualifications.
Katamba added that Opio was also arrested to help the investigation following the allegation labeled against him.
Rtd. Maj. Katamba, says that investigations into the recruitment fraud in Katakwi are ongoing.
Geoffrey Omolo, the chairperson of Katakwi district condemned the act and asked the authorities to allow the law to take its path.
“As authorities of Katakwi district, we shall not allow corruption to ravage our development and we shall handle whoever who is connected to this fraud accordingly,” Omolo said.
The duo is in Katakwi police station waiting to be produced in the courts of law to face charges of Abuse of office.
He notes that whereas the community accuses the DSC of extortion, none is willing to adduce any evidence for the district to take appropriate action but now with the support of IGG, the district is relieved from these culprits.
Efforts to get a comment from Edison Obukulem, the East Kyoga Regional Police spokesman were futile after all his known phone numbers were off by press time.
