Ministry Of Trade P/S Committed to High Court over Cooperatives Cash Bonanza

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives has been committed to the High Court of the Anti-Corruption Unit to face trial over embezzlement of Cooperatives War Loss Compensation money.

 

Geraldine Ssali Busuulwa who was arraigned before Anti-Corruption Court on charges of Abuse of office, Causing financial loss and Conspiracy to defraud on Friday, 19th July 2024 was subsequently remanded.

 

According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit that carried out the investigations and arrest, Ssali in her capacity as Permanent Secretary in abuse of her office irregularly added Buyaka Growers Cooperative Society among those to be paid war loss compensation in the FY 2021/22, yet it was not initially listed.

 

She subsequently conspired with others and irregularly made payments of Shs3.4B meant for the Cooperative to Kirya & Co. Advocates, causing financial loss to government.

 

Geraldine Ssali Busuulwa was picked by detectives attached to CID on Thursday, 18th July, 2024 on allegations of stealing Shs3.4B meant for war loss compensation by government to Buyaka Growers Cooperative Society.

 

She was arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court alongside the three MPs already remanded over the same. They are Michael Mawanda Maranga, Mudiimi Wamakuyu, Paul Akamba, Lawyer Julius Kirya Taitankonko and Leonard Kavundira a Ministry of Trade official.
