MBALE CITY
Seven people have been arrested from Mbale city during an operation on people who smoke and use drugs.
The operation was conducted yesterday Wednesday morning, 24th July, 2024 at Namakwekwe Ward, Northern city division, Mbale city and was done by Yahaya Were, the Deputy Mbale Resident City Commissioner with the help of Police.
While speaking to the media after the operation, Were said that the crackdown follows the increased cases of theft, rape of women and other related cases in the city.
He revealed that they also impounded drugs like marijuana, opium, aviation fuel, dangerous items like knives among others in their houses.
The suspects are Alie Fred 30 years of age, Khaukha Keven 26 years, Ayubu 40 years, Musa Kizamba 27 years, Wamboga Shafik 23 years, Kasolo Ali 19 years, and Kizamba Ayubu 19 years. They are all currently being detained at Northern city division Central Police Station.
Simon Wedenga and Sarah Namataka, both residents from Namakwekwe expressed their happiness saying this is going to bring sanity in the area.
They urged police to detain these people rather than leaving them because they have been having a number of operations but the suspects are released which making such operations meaningless.
Getting a comment from Elgon region police spokesperson Rogers Taitika was futile by press time after saying he is away in Kampala on official duties.
