Uganda’s acting Head of Mission in Canada, Mr. Allan Kajik, has reportedly abandoned office and been accused of failing to mobilize the diaspora for the 2024 National Resistance Movement party symposium.
This is an annual event that often brings together all NRM supporters in the Diaspora to discuss strategies to strengthen their mandates and achievements, among others, to drive effective socioeconomic capabilities of Uganda.
Kajik’s hide-and-seek style of administration was exposed late this week (Saturday 28th September, 2024) when a team of top officials from Uganda arrived in Canada ahead of the NRM Symposium 2024, but were shocked to realize that he wasn’t at the center of the arrangements.
“This is us in the meeting; instead of being at the center of our meeting, imagine he was requested to finance transport, but he refused, and the embassy is not part of the event. After taking pictures, Mr. Kajik left the top government officials for fear of being identified as doing NRM activities,” said a source.
A source among the top officials from Kampala revealed that upon arrival in Ottawa, they learned that Kajik had not stepped to his office in the recent weeks but instead was spending time at his residence, something that made it difficult for a section of NRM cadres in Diaspora to efficiently mobilize for the 2024 symposium.
Despite being fully briefed, Mr. Kajik still opted to stay away from the officials, including Minister’s Rukia Nakadama and Milly Babalanda, among others for fear of being misrepresented by the Canadian government.
“He is ever at home; all he knows is wearing suits and taking good photos to update his WhatsApp status, yet diaspora haven’t been mobilized. I wonder how the NRM chapter in Canada will continue mobilizing for their activities when Kajik is in hiding, fearing to be seen mobilizing for their party activities,“ a source said.
Another source revealed to this publication that Kajik failed to a make a deposit of 1500 dollars on a venue chosen for the function leading to the organizers missing out on it and had to find an alternative venue.
According to another source, Kajik is acting in a cowardly manner in an attempt to protect his job by not being identified with the NRM party activities by the Canadian government to avoid a repeat of what happened to his former boss, Amb. Joy Ruth Acheng.
It has also been confirmed that various activities at the Embassy have since stalled as a result of his perennial absenteeism from office as the acting head of mission.
He has also been accused of bullying his juniors and ordering them to stay away from engagement in any activities of the National Resistance Movement government, claiming it would cause him problems.
“He is tough on subordinates who are known cadres and always eager to identify or engage in any NRM activities in Canada. We appeal to the appointing authority to intervene by deploying a substantive head of mission who will not hesitate to promote the activities of the ruling party,” said another source.
Kajik, a husband to Minister Evelyn Anite, was recently asked to be the acting head of mission following the expulsion of Amb. Joy Ruth Aceng by the Canadian government after she clashed with a section of supporters of the opposition National Unity Platform party who had attempted to interrupt the NRM ceremony to celebrate the achievements of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
