Members of Busoga Interfaith and Civil Sector Forum for Peace and Delopment brainstorming on issues hindering Busoga

NRM operations in Busoga Sub region are in a state of quandary and this has greatly negatively impacted its achievements in the face of the people.

This was revealed by the Busoga Regional Kadhi, Dr. Basoga Bowa while addressing the people of Busoga in Iganga during the function of Interfaith and civil society Forum over the weekend.

Dr. Basoga informed that the government had given Musilim land to construct orphanage and other charitable activities in Jinja but again Muslims in the community were disappointed when the same government handed over land to other foreigners.

He adds that government has failed the operations of Busoga University in that the government came up and said that it passed 3billion shillings thrice for resumption of Busoga University’s operations but the same government of NRM has failed to monitor and make accountability of the money passed for the University. This has led to the people of Busoga feeling less attended to as even some people are cheated behind the shadows that the University is operating yet it’s not.

Sugar cane growing in the region has been promoted by the government yet sugarcane has escalated poverty among the Basoga making them hate the party due to failure to address such challenges because youths are spending a lot of time in plantations instead of attending school and starting up new business venture to improve their lives.

He informed also that poor road networks in the region have become a challenge in that people face a lot of challenges including loss of lives in the communities is one of the challenges the government should look at with a kin eye.

Rev. Canon Bolya Alfred on behalf of Bishop Wakula Patrick said that Government is not supportive to Basoga as it has left youths to Boda-Bodas, girls on streets for prostitution among that and here he suggested that government should come up with clear and special programs so that youths are guarded from money lenders who take their boda bodas and houses and that this has led to increased sodomy as youth seek for money.

He also said that excessive poverty in the region has led to forced marriages by parents.

Former mayor Iganga Municipality Balaba David informed that at times NRM top leaders use a lot of arrogance when it comes to leadership in Busoga as they claim Busoga to be theirs whether, they ask for votes or not, mbu they have ready votes. He says that President Museven has failed to use key people of the region like Hon Rebecca Kadaga the former Speaker to the extent that she gave a deaf ear when it came to asking votes for NRM.

He informed that NRM primaries lost meaning and value and that they should not be organized anymore because there is a lot of confusion and rigging causing scandals and painting the ruling party as party of thieves in the country mostly in Busoga.

Balaba informed the Guest of honor not to leave matters raised in their cars but to report them direct to the person intended to receive the addressed messages.

The guest of honor was Lt. Col Anbako Kiblai, the senior Presidential advisor mobilization who informed the congregation that since the NRM came to power Busoga and Basoga were NRM supporters and helped NRM to fight and put Alice Lakwena who was a rebel in exile.

He requested people of Busoga not to give up but to push NRM higher to greater heights because the party is for them and its to benefit them.

He assured that improvement in transport, health and education sectors in the region to improve people’s standards of living by the ruling party.

Those who attended included; Lt. Col. Ambako Kiblai-Senior Presidential Advisor/Mobilization, Amb. Dr Ahmed Kisuule-Senior Presidential Advisor/Middle East Affairs, Magendi Saleh-National General Secretary Interfaith and Civil Society Forum for Peace and Development, Hajji Sadik Musa Lukandwa and many others.
