MBALE: Angry Boda Boda Riders Lynch Motorcycle Thief

Angry residents mostly Boda Boda riders in Mbale district have killed a yet to be identified man in his 30’s accusing him of stealing a motorcycle.

 

The suspect was accused of stealing a motorcycle Registration Number UER 626S Bajaj Boxer in Busano Sub County in Mbale district.

 

It is alleged that the suspected thief on Thursday morning raided a home of Boda boda rider in Busano and stole the motorcycle.

 

An eyewitness only identified as Brian, told this Reporter in an interview on Thursday morning 24 October 2024 that he saw boda boda riders hunting the suspected boda boda thief with pangas and got him in Busambe parish, Bumbobi Sub County and lynched him.

 

Sources reveal that one of the boda boda riders from Busano had parked the motorcycle outside his house in the compound but when he came out, he found the motorcycle missing. This prompted him to alert various Boda-boda stages within Mbale district.

 

The boda-boda riders immediately swung into action and started searching for the stolen motorcycle.

 

They intercepted the suspected thief red-handed with the stolen motorcycle at Namaste Village, Busambe parish in Bumbobi Sub County, Mbale district.

 

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson told this reporter in an interview that after arresting the suspect, the boda-boda riders pounced on him, beating him to death.

 

His lifeless body was later picked by police that took it to Mbale city mortuary for postmortem.

 

Taitika has however warned members of the general public to desist from any act of mob justice adding that police will not condone what he termed self-help approach to justice.
