The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has confirmed that some UCE examiners left marking centres after disagreement on payment.
According to a UNEB Press statement dated Monday, 16th December, 2024 and signed by the ED, Dan N Odongo, the Examiners that walked out of the Marking Centers were for Agriculture and Physics subjects.
He says despite UNEB’s efforts to negotiate with the Examiners over their demand for increased pay, 100 out of the 400 Physics Examiners walked out and 59 quit marking Agriculture.
The National Examiner however, assures the public that although some examiners left the marking centres after disagreement on payment, the marking at all Examination Marking Centres is continuing smoothly as planned.
He says that the marking of UCE which kicked off on 13th December, 2024 is progressing smoothly despite the walking out of a few examiners.
UNEB is nonetheless happy with the over 6800 Examiners which it says, “have exhibited the spirit of patriotism and understanding in this national cause of marking the first cohort for the new Lower Secondary Curriculum.”
