Namisindwa District Police have sent a file indicting the Acting Namisindwa District Commercial Officer to the Resident State Attorney for sanctioning.
This was revealed today, Monday, 23rd December, 2024 by SP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region Police Spokesperson.
Taitika says Bernard Kitongo who was arrested last week on the orders of Bosco Nabongo, the assistant Resident District Commissioner of Namisindwa over allegations of soliciting bribes from PDM beneficiaries is still in Police Custody at Namisindwa CPS.
However, his co-accused, Caroline Khwaka, the parish chief of Burumba ward, Bukhaweka town Council was today released on police bond.
According to Nabongo, he received a lot of complaints with evidence from different PDM beneficiaries saying parish chiefs from their respective parishes demand them to pay between 50,000/= to 100,000/= before being considered.
The complainants say, the Parish Chiefs tell them that the money is for the District Commercial Officer.
He says this prompted him to ask police to summon Kitongo and Caroline to make statements. However, shortly after the statements they were released on bond the same day.
Nabongo ordered police to re-arrest the pair after President Museveni directing police to arrest all civil servants who asked money from PDM beneficiaries while on his Bugisu recent tours.
Taitika says that they have forwarded the file to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice before the two appear in courts of law to answer charges of corruption.
