The Namisindwa District acting Commercial Officer has been arraigned before Court and remanded to Prison on allegations of extorting Parish Development Model beneficiaries.
Bernard Kitongo who appeared before Esther Nalungi, the Grade 1 Magistrate of Bubulo magistrate’s court on 23rd December, 2024 was remanded until 29th January, 2025.
Kitongo was arrested on 19th December, 2024 together with Carolyn Khwaka, the Parish chief of Burumba ward, Bukhaweka town council in Namisindwa district on orders of Bosco Nabongo, the Namisindwa Assistant Resident District Commissioner.
The pair was accused of extorting money from PDM beneficiaries before giving them the green light to benefit from the program which is illegal.
President Museveni had earlier during his PDM Monitoring tour of Bugisu sub region asked police to arrest all civil servants who are accused of extorting money from PDM beneficiaries.
