MBALE CITY
In a groundbreaking and contentious decision, the III Bugisu cultural leader, Umukuka Jude Mudoma has today Friday, 3rd January, 2025 declared the dissolution of the Inzu Ya Masaba, a cultural institution established in 2010 to oversee the governance of the Bamasaba people.
This was revealed by his spokesperson, Stephen Masiga who today announced to the media that the institution is now defunct and legally invalid.
He stated that governance will henceforth transition to a new framework known as Bukuka Bwe Bamasaba, which aligns with Uganda’s national laws, particularly the Constitution.
Mudoma argued that the Inzu Ya Masaba’s constitution is no longer legally tenable under the Cultural Leaders and Institutions Act of 2011.
“The institution’s framework has become obsolete in the face of existing legal provisions,” Masiga explained.
The move has sparked debates among cultural stakeholders and the Bamasaba community, as the implications of the shift are expected to redefine the leadership and governance structures of the cultural institution.
Nelson Wedayila, the speaker of Inzu yamasaba who was recently sacked by Mudoma as minister of Cultural division/ Inclusive dispute resolution in the recent cabinet reshuffle described the move as useless advising the Bamasaba to ignore.
Wedayila says that Inzu Yamasaba was put in place by the Parliament of Uganda in 2011 after the local governments of six Bugisu district councils passed a resolution of having Inzu yamasaba when the government allowed the existence of cultural institutions in 1995.
He says that someone must be misleading Mudoma thinking this will help him to amend the constitution from rotational election to life Umukuka like in Buganda Kingdom saying he is looking for bloodshed at Masaba land.
Wedayila also says that Mudoma is plotting to change the constitution and rule until death which will not be allowed by Bamasaba.
Charles Walimbwa Peke, the former prime minister of Inzu yamasaba told our reporter that he is soon coming up with a bold statement which will shake the Masaba land on the current confusion which is being caused by Mudoma.
