The Namisindwa district authorities have revealed how the Shs900M road maintenance oil seed program cash is to be utilized.
Speaking to this reporter on Thursday, 2nd January, 2025, Jackson Wakwaika, the LCV chairperson of Namisindwa district said the money which is already in the district’s account is to be used to maintain the Bumbo Bumwali to Matuwa 9.4 Kilometers road this Financial Year, 2024/2025.
This money was released by the Central government and according to Wakwaika, they identified the Bumbo Bumwali to Matuwa 9.4 Kilometers road because it is in very deplorable conditions and yet it is one of the main roads which links tourists to Mount Elgon National Park.
He says besides the road connects a number of Sub Counties like Bupoto, Namisindwa town council, Bumbo, Bukokho among others.
Victor Mafumo, the Namisindwa district roads inspector says that works are starting in January, 2025 and expected to be completed in 8 months’ time.
He says the maintenance works include road shaping, pouring first class marrum and drainage system.
Mafumo urged locals to embrace the project saying it’s going to make the area accessible and farmers will be able to transport their agricultural products to nearby markets.
