A 34 year old fisherman and resident of Bushenyi Zone, Ziiru Ward, Lyabana Town Council, Buvuma District has drowned after a love triangle he was involved in went sour.
Nanyungi Stephen drowned on Tuesday, 7th January, 2025 at around 1 PM on Lake Victoria in Gayaza, Ziiru Ward, Buvuma District.
It is alleged that on Monday, 6th January, 2025, Nanyungi had a misunderstanding with Mubiru Ronald, also known as Kafupi, over a woman identified as Tebazire Amida, whom both men were romantically involved with.
It is further established that Mubiru had married the woman, and they had spent three months together. However, he had sent her home to spend Christmas with her family.
Upon her return, she went directly to the home of Nanyungi and spent two days with him. On 06/01/2025, at around 8:00 PM, Mubiru reported the matter to the local LC1 in Bushenyi Zone, hoping to resolve the dispute.
Despite this intervention, the deceased continued to visit his relatives, telling them that he was going to die and handed over some of his belongings to his brother while he was intoxicated.
According to SP Hellen Butoto, the Sezzibwa Region spokesperson, it is alleged that on 07/01/2025, at around 6 PM, Nanyungi’s body was found in the water, having drowned.
