Boda boda rider aged 29, from Magamaga town council stage in Mayuge district has been arrested and detained at CPS Kakira for alleged rape of 25 year old female victim.
The boda boda rider identified as Michael Acidri commonly known as Azabo allegedly on January 12 at around 11pm raped a customer who boarded his motorcycle from Magamaga town Council in Mayuge district enroute to Bugembe in Jinja city at an agreed amount of three thousand shillings.
Upon reaching Kakira roundabout (where fish is sold) the rider changed direction and proceeded to a swampy area on the left side of the road.
This prompted the victim to appeal for help by making loud noise and grabbing the rider’s jacket, they fell down and the culprit dragged the victim to the swamp and allegedly raped her.
According to SP James Mubi , the officers who were on duty, intensely patrolling the highway, using the Integrated highway patrol vehicle together with support from the security guards belonging to Industrial Security Services (ISS) of Madhivan caught the suspect red handed and rescued the victim who is currently getting medical treatment. The suspect has been medically examined and is of a sound mind.
However under the command and guidance of the RPC Kiira, SSP Charles Nsaba together with the leadership of the boda boda industry in Jinja city and Jinja district will organise refresher training courses for all boda boda riders on different training modules.
The training will reemphasize safety and security of the customers and themselves, customer service, road safety precautionary measures, self-discipline, dangers of getting involved in criminal activities for instance rape, defilement, robberies, subversive tendencies, human rights, operating, patriotism and socio economic transformation activities.
Mubi says Kiira regional police command will continue to fight all sexual gender based violence against women and children.
However According to the Kiira region annual policing plan for 2025, more efforts are geared towards fighting comprehensively domestic violence, child abuse related case like neglecting to provide and children diversion guidelines. When you combat domestic violence the offences related to child abuse are 70% solved.
