Councilors of Busaba Town council in Butaleja district on Tuesday, 14th January, 2025 expressed their bitterness with Asuman Koire, by locking his office over allegations of abuse of office.
Salim Gamusi, the LC3 Chairperson for Busaba Town Council and a faction of councilors stormed the office of the town clerk armed with sticks but got him out office prompting them to put a padlock on his office door.
Rutu Tabo, the acting speaker of Busaba town council, also councillor for Nawinyoha Ward says the town clerk has failed to give accountability for the town council’s income for the last two quarters, and has denied them allowances.
He says that they passed a budget of Shs100Million for this financial year 2024/25, but they have no report on how much has been collected so far and the expenditure.
Councilors says they are entitled to Shs20,000 per Sitting but up to now, none of the councilors has got any allowance.
They want the Butaleja CAO to transfer the town clerk warning that they won’t allow him back into office.
However, Koire when contacted on phone said the allegations are baseless and advised them to act according to the law.
Mike Yoga, the deputy CAO for Butaleja district, blamed the councillors for having acted unlawfully by locking the office.
He also tasked the Busaba town council LC3 Chairperson and his councilors to sit as a council and write to his office explaining their bitterness before he can effect a transfer.
