MBALE DISTRICT
Mbale district has received a significant boost for its road infrastructure, thanks to a 1.7 billion shilling allocation from the government’s Oil Seed Project.
This initiative, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries, aims to rehabilitate roads connecting highly agricultural sub-counties under oil seed projects.
The Bungokho-Bumbobi road, spanning 11.6 kilometers, is set to benefit from this funding. According to George Wanakina, the Mbale District Production Officer, the district has already received the funds, and work is expected to commence before the end of January.
He says the project will involve road shaping, culvert installation, and application of first-class murram, among other works, and is expected to be completed within five months.
Mbale district is not the only beneficiary of the Oil Seed Project in the Bugisu Sub-region. Namisindwa and Sironko districts have each received 900 million shillings, while Manafwa district is also expected to receive funding soon.
Tonny Wamakale, the former LCV Vice Chairperson and councilor representing Bungokho sub-county, today Tuesday, 21st January, 2025 during an interview urged the community to support the project, citing his efforts to include the road in the project due to its poor condition.
