MBALE DISTRICT
More than 300 residents of Wambewo Township Village, Bubyangu Parish, Bubyangu Sub County in Mbale district have signed a petition to censure their LCI Chairperson, Aliyi Mudangada Buzeze.
The petition arose from a special village resolution reached at on 10th December, 2024.
The petitioners accuse Buzeze of extortion, corruption, and misconduct, including demanding money from beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.
Other allegations against Buzeze include protecting criminals, failing to mobilize residents to participate in government programs, and neglecting his duties, allowing school-aged children to loiter in trading centers. The residents have submitted their petition to the CAO through the LCII and LCIII Chairman Bubyanga Sub County seeking Buzeze’s removal from office.
While receiving the petition on Monday, 20th January, 2025, Luke Lokuda, the Mbale district chief administrative officer pledged to give further guidance after perusing the petition.
However, Buzeze dismisses the allegations saying that the petitioners are attempting to tarnish his reputation.
He attributed the move to a few individuals who are seeking to replace him as chairperson but urged them to follow lawful procedures.
According to the Local Government Act, Chapter 243, residents have the power to impeach their village chairperson or executive member with a two-thirds majority vote, citing grounds such as incompetence, corruption, abuse of office, or misconduct.
