Goons have vandalized the Namisindwa small-scale irrigation project, causing significant damage to the pipes and infrastructure.

The yet to be identified goons on Tuesday, 28th January, 2025 vandalized the Namisindwa small-scale irrigation project, cutting the pipes using pangas which connect water from the nearby Marugurwe water source to the garden of one of the beneficiaries, Walimbwa.

The small irrigation project, worth 300 million shillings, was initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries in the 2024/25 financial year to support 15 farmers from different sub-counties.

Each farmer who stays near the water source received either solar or thermal irrigation systems to irrigate their crops during the dry season.

One of the beneficiaries, Wilson Walimbwa, a councilor representing Buwatuwa sub-county, to the district reported that his project, worth 22 million shillings, was severely affected.

The vandalism has left him concerned about the impact on his crops, which rely on the irrigation system.

David Mityelo, the acting district production officer, condemned the incident and urged Walimbwa to report the matter to the police.

Julie Namara, the Resident District Commissioner, cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands and warned that those responsible for the vandalism will be arrested and face the law.
