Police in Tororo district have arrested three youths on allegations of assaulting the driver of Tororo Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon Yeri Apollo Ofwono.
The arrested suspects were part of the gang that stormed mattress distribution function that Hon Yeri organized to reward learners who scored first grade in 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations results on Monday, 27th Jnuary, 2025 at Rock view Primary school.
Immediately the function ended, the youths who were dressed on NRM T-shirts headed by a notorious bully in Tororo town commonly known as Obukilo, first stormed the classroom where food was being served and carried away one saucepan of food while the Mp and his team were helplessly looking.
The team later waited when the MP was moving out of the venue and stopped his car and forced him out demanding that he gives them money for attending his function. To further show their anger, the youths then undressed the NRM T-shirts bearing the president’s picture and threw them at the MP telling him to support his party Chairperson President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni alone.
The gang then resorted to assaulting the MP’s Driver jointly beat him leaving him with injuries.
Moses Johnson Mugwe, the Bukedi South regional police spokesperson confirmed the arrested of the three youths adding that they are being detained at the Tororo Central Police Station.
The arrested youths include,Adam Mutabu ,a resident of Nyangole B, Usiman Selvester of Bison B and Christopher Odoi of Bison C. Security operatives are currently hunting for their group leader Obukilo who is on the run.
The members of the public are currently asking security operatives to crackdown on this gang with the aim of restoring sanity in the area.
