MBALE CITY

Nkoma SS picked up where they left off last year, starting the new year with a resounding victory in the Elite Championship held at St. Joseph Nazareth Secondary School in Mpigi on Tuesday, 18th February, 2025.

The school’s Rugby Girls team was one of the select few invited to participate in the prestigious Rugby 7s girls’ event, alongside six other schools.

Schools which were invited to participate are Nkoma SS, Jinja SS, PMM girls Wairaka, St Catherine SS in Lira, Kijjabwemi high school and St. Joseph Nazareth in Mpigi

However, in a surprising turn of events, most of the invited schools failed to show up, leaving only Nkoma SS and Kijjabwemi high school to contest the championship.

Unfortunately, Kijjabwemi high school was unable to field a full team, having only a few players registered in the system leaving most players out.

As a result, Nkoma SS was awarded a walkover, declaring them the champions of the Rugby 7s girls’ event since it was the only school which went and met all requirements of having all players in the system.

Abubakari Kawanguzi, the head teacher of Nkoma Secondary school told the media on Wednesday, 19th February at the school that this victory is a testament to the school’s commitment to excellence in sports and their dedication to developing the talents of their students.

He congratulated his school and students saying it was a well-deserved win.

“We look forward to seeing more of their achievements in the world of sports” Mr. Kawanguzi said.
