MBALE CITY
Mbale Regional Referral Hospital has acquired a mobile laboratory, courtesy of the Rusha government worthy over 50 million USD, to enhance testing capabilities for Ebola and other diseases.
Daniel Mwayafu, the Acting Director of the hospital, revealed this development in an exclusive interview with our reporter on Monday, February 24, 2025 at his office.
According to Mwayafu, the Ministry of Health decided to deploy the mobile laboratory to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital in response to the recent Ebola outbreak.
The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art machines, including GeneXpert, Chemistry Analyzer, and PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) machine.
Mwayafu noted that the hospital is now equipped to conduct Ebola tests for the entire Eastern region, eliminating the need to send samples to Entebbe as was previously the case.
Asumin Nasike, Chairperson of the Mbale City Ebola Task Force and Mbale Resident City Commissioner, expressed her delight with the mobile laboratory, stating that it has arrived at the right time, given the Ebola outbreak in Mbale City.
Currently, Mbale City has reported one Ebola-related death, over 100 contacts have been discharged, and one patient has been discharged from the hospital.
