Abubakar Kawanguzi, the head teacher of Nkoma Secondary School has been appointed as the new Mbale City Secondary Schools Sports Association (MCSSSA) chairperson.
Kawanguzi replaces Fred Wamono, the head teacher of Masaba High School after the expiry of his two year term.
He was elected unopposed on Saturday, 22nd February, 2025 by 25 games teachers from various secondary schools in Mbale City at Nkoma Secondary School premises.
Kawanguzi emphasized the importance of teamwork and discipline in ensuring the development and nurturing of talent among students.
Shortly, they held planning meetings and outlined sports activities for the entire year.
“Members, let us do the right things, and remember that discipline is key to these games,” he noted.
The games teachers discussed various aspects of sports development, including talent identification, training, and competition.
They also laid out strategies for managing the forthcoming games in the city, which will include a Female Teachers’ Retreat on March 8th, a Football City Division Zonal competition on March 15th, and a Football City Competition on March 22nd-23rd.
To participate in the competitions, students must meet specific eligibility criteria. For example, they must have been born on or after January 1, 2005, and must have completed primary school in 2018.
For A-Level students, they must have achieved a minimum result of 1. The MCSSSA is committed to promoting sports development and excellence in secondary schools across Mbale City.
He says providing opportunities for young people to develop their talents and pursue their passions, the association aims to make a positive impact on the lives of students in Mbale City. With its focus on teamwork, discipline, and excellence, the MCSSSA is poised to achieve great things in the world of sports.
