Tororo District Council has reappointed three members of the district service commission, whose terms had expired in January 2025.

The Council sitting on Wednesday, 26th February, 2025 resolved that Mark Olweny Omala will continue to serve as Chairperson, alongside Ochieng Francis and Akisa Angela as members.

The council also passed a supplementary budget of 214.8 million Uganda shillings, allocating funds to:

Natural Resources, Shs20M, Physical Planning, Shs25.4M and Smart Agriculture, Shs169.4M.

However, the council meeting was marred by controversy. Disagreement emerged when Noah Okumu proposed postponing agenda item 8 until the next council meeting, citing the need to meet the vice president.

Joshua Omella, a councillor representing Kalait Sub-county, raised unresolved concerns over the 1947 colonial division, leading to heated exchanges amongst councillors.

This development comes amid ongoing discussions about the potential division of Tororo District, with some leaders advocating for the creation of new districts while others call for the President to declare the findings of the London report in 2018.

The main contention revolves around Tororo Municipality and its jurisdiction.

Tororo District has experienced chaos in the past, including a recent incident where councillors restarted debate on dividing the district, leading to a heated exchange and repeated council adjournments.
