BULAMBULI
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Bulambuli district is facing allegations of exaggerating voter numbers in the party register.
Members of the party have written to the district executive, demanding an explanation for the discrepancies in the voter numbers displayed and the actual numbers in the register.
According to Sarah Gidongo, one of the party members, in four villages in Sotti sub-county specifically, the displayed voter numbers are significantly lower than the actual numbers in the register. For instance, in Namagude village, the displayed number is 145, but the register shows 469 voters. Similar discrepancies were found in Bukyawo, Gombe, and Kotta villages.
Some party members, including Martin Wagonyi and Sam Gidongo are accusing the district party executive and aspiring candidates of conspiring to rig the upcoming party primary elections using the inflated voter numbers.
However, Paulo Kimamati, the Bulambuli district NRM Chairperson, has denied these allegations.
According to Kimamati, the increase in voter numbers in the affected villages is due to the recent defection of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party members to the NRM, as well as the relocation of people from neighboring Buluganya sub-county following a recent landslide.
